I forget that the Hudson was a major byway in the colonial and pre-colonial days with many forts along its banks and this one was really at its mouth (I Think).

This is in the Sound. It is just east of the Throggs Neck Bridge near Little Neck.

There are a couple of these forts tucked away along the coast. The "Fort" in Gloucester is gone, but I'm told that some of the original walls remain.

The forts in New London and Newport are in good shape. Also Fort Wadsworth in lower NY Harbor.

Many of them are now just ruins.
