Nice photo and interesting history. On a map the lighthouse looks pretty far from land, but the photos on the NE Lighthouses link make it look much closer to the shore.
Brenda, Erica, It is between Fishers Island NY and Stonington CT. I am guessing the water is about 5 miles wide there with the light about in the middle. So with a zoom lense in some of those photos, the land can look fairly close.
Kate, After a fairly mild Fall, it has suddenly become very cold here as well.
