I always hate stories like this. This weekend, someone went to St Mary's By The Sea in Black Rock and used a chainsaw to damage and destroy 15 sycamore trees that line the walkway of this attractive park. Some trees were toppled, while others received slices that circumvent the trunks and will eventually kill them.
Maybe I have watched too many detective shows over the years, but this doesn't seem like a random, teenage, vandalism act. Someone planned this, and when the nor'easter created a distraction, they made their move.
While most of us were focused on the trees brought down by the storm, a more sinister destruction was taking place at the same time.

Oh no. This is murder.
ReplyDeleteSad and evil ....
ReplyDeleteSpiteful and dispicable - but of equal concern that no one reported this chain saw wielding crank?
ReplyDelete"While most of us were focused on the trees brought down by the storm, a more sinister destruction was taking place at the same time."
ReplyDeleteYep, like in the movies when they wait for a train to pass to mask the sound of a murder.
Hope the culprit will be found -15 trees is a planned act -definitely!
ReplyDeleteWhat would possess someone to do that?! How disturbing.
ReplyDeleteI want to know where Glen Beck was during the storm!
ReplyDeleteI joke to ease the pain. I wonder if they have some kind of surveillance cameras, or maybe someone was in the park and saw what was going on..."Foul deeds will rise, though all the earth overwhelm them." The truth will out.
I have a feeling Glen Beck does not know how to use a chainsaw. I hope this person is proud of him/herself, though I'd bet it was a him
ReplyDeleteThat is truly a shame. Recently, there was a lighthouse vandalism here near Tillamook, Oregon. Seems these things are happening everywhere. Folks these days have no respect for property that doesn't belong to them. I hope the St Mary Star of the Sea vandals are caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
ReplyDeleteThere is a reward for any information that helps identify the person who attacked these trees. Some local nurseries have offered to donate replacement trees, which is great news. 6 of the trees that were cut have already been taken down because they were in danger of coming down on their own. The rest will be watched carefully to see if perhaps they can recover.
ReplyDeleteWhy are people such rzzlfrckn frrglmrkn JERKS sometimes?
ReplyDeleteWho would be this sick?
ReplyDeletePlease keep us posted on any developments. I know we will all cheer if the culprits are identified.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the information Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteBella,
I heard about that Oregon lighthouse vandalism. I read it on one of the sites. It is really unfortunate.
Don't know why I just thought of this, but did they ever figure out whodunnit?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't heard anything. I just went and checked again and nothing has been reported.
If I hear any news I'll try to update everyone.
